POV: Emara

Today is a big day for me. Well, don't get me wrong, I don't mean one of those fairy tale happy endings, rather, it's got off to a terrible start.

Yes, the Java exam day.

A few hours ago I cheered myself up, "Alright, I spent time eating the books and I slept in the library last night, there's no way I won't pass the exam or get my diploma!"

I joined both my hands and closed my eyes as I prayed, "Dear Lord, lovely dear Lord. Hear me out for god's sake. Please let me clear this exam and I will study more sincerely for the next one."

Amen.

But, the truth is -

I was twelve minutes late for the exam!

Though I missed a few minutes, I will cover it up soon. God is with me. I will pass.

I read the first question... Wait a minute! This question is out of the book. Hell, it's out of the syllabus.

I'm pretty sure AND gate and OR gate circuits were not in the syllabus of Java.

I can feel my blood pressure increasing as I read the whole question paper to see if I can get an easy one. I look around and see other students writing dedicatedly. What the hell!

Calm down...calm down...focus on top of the paper.

Then my eye sockets widen enough for my eyeballs to fall out.

Subject: Digital Circuits.

Fuck!

FUCK!

F U C K!

I thought it was Java's paper today! Shiiiiiiiit!

Finally after the exam, I drag the exam-crushed Emara home, and as soon as I push open the door I smell pancakes!

*Thud*

I walk fast in a flash speed to the kitchen as the smell gets engulfed in my head and my taste buds leak saliva in my mouth. As soon as I enter the kitchen, I witness a shirtless guy whose shoulder muscles keep bulging out as he flips the pancake in the air. His boxer is hanging so low to his hips that I can see a quarter of his buttocks.

What's this lousy piece of shit doing here?

That's the first thing that comes into my mind but after watching him making pancakes I control my sass.

"Ethan, my favorite brother! I knew you loved me boo." I shriek in excitement as I see chocolate spread on pancakes. Oh my god! Pancakes with Nutella.

"This is for my girlfriend waiting for me in my room.." Ethan doesn't even bother to give me a glance when he replies," NOT FOR U."

I fist my hands tightly as I feel like to slam that same hot pan on Ethan's face, then run away with the pancakes. No one is above food. Though he is just a minute older than me, he has a brain of a robot and here I am stuck in the seventh semester from the past one year.

"Whose suitcase is that?" I ask Ethan as I glimpse the two suitcases in the hallway.

"That's your favorite brother and his darling girlfriend's, of course." Ethan smirks, "Well, we're going on Europe vacation for celebrating graduation later."

He shakes the pancakes, "Grab a bite before that."

This son of a biscuit! I can't believe he didn't even give me a heads up!

His audacity to wink at me when he knows that I just finished an exam today, although I should graduate with him if I had passed. If. I. Had. Passed.

I'm not a complete idiot, I just don't have any interest in studying and giving exams. Getting a degree is so mainstream nowadays. Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs nobody has a degree yet they hire people with Harvard degrees.

"Em, mother again showed me a guy's bio that fits for you. If by next year you didn't graduate or get a job, she will force you to marry that businessman. Focus on your exam." Ethan's voice sounds soft while his eyes show concern for me. He takes Nutella in one hand and the plate with pancakes in another and walks away silently.

Ethan's words felt like a huge pinch in my chest. I don't want to be a pawn in a deal or marry some boring-aged businessman who doesn't even know sex positions more than just three.

I walk out of the kitchen, his words are still floating in my head like helium balloons. I don't want to be someone's property or be a part of any deal.

The first thing I do after reaching bedroom is to throw my bag on the couch and check the exam timetable.

Tomorrow is the Java exam.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Why god why?

I can't read that evil labyrinth again for another night. I lie down on the floor spreading my hands as I feel tired like I build Rome in one day.

I need a Plan B. This graduation thing isn't happening anytime soon. I don't even have a good figure to join a strip club, how can I make money to be independent?

I wonder what talents I have…

I am flawless with tongue twisters.

I can twist my jaw to get more food in my mouth.

I can make my eyebrows dance.

I can spin pens extremely fast.

I am fluent in profanities.

Errrh... I am a useless sack of potatoes. I have no boyfriend or a millionaire sugar daddy. Ethan will be enjoying his Europe vacation soon and here I am stuck in the same room just like the last year.

My brother scored an A1 grade in his finals and he has so many extracurricular activities certificates that Google and Microsoft might knock his door anytime to work for them.

After staring at the wall for a while, I take out my phone and search for job vacancies for freshers in multinational companies.

Meanwhile, I hear Ethan showing off, "We're running into the arms of Europe, bye."

"Bang." The door was then shut.

A sly smirk appears on my face as I plan for my freedom and income. If God is not with me, I am glad Satan is.

He-He Ha-Ha Hey-Hey.
