THIRD PERSON'S POV
It was supposed to be a normal late night. The trees swayed with the gentle breeze, the leaves rustling with the movement. Cricket sound occupied the silence as though they were having a battle of who's the loudest. It was a normal occurrence in the mountain of Deluna but tonight, there was something unusual.
By the winding mountain road of Mt. Deluna, a black car is parked. It's not exactly a place where cars would go because of the winding roads proving hard to maneuver especially at night.
The wind blew a bit harder and a twig snapped. It flew straight to the car with a loud crack before it went with the wind to the bushes not far ahead.
The person inside the car was roused from her stupor.
Elma raised her weak hand and rubbed her aching temples gently. Slowly, she opened her eyes and looked around. The bright headlights of her car tells her she is not in the territory of her pack. She's in some kind of a desolate place with brutal winding paths.
She tried to recall how she ended up in the place. The last thing she could remember was that Basil, her fiancé, and her best friend, Josephine, had invited her for dinner. Whatever happened after that, she couldn't remember.
She was about to move when suddenly, she heard a voice in the backseat. It sounded familiar and later on, she realized it was Josephine.
"Basil, what if Elma wakes up and sees or hears us like this?" Josephine said. Elma's brows furrowed. Was Josephine talking to Basil? As in her fiancé?
Basil snorted. "She can't do anything if she wakes up, anyway. You're my mate, Josephine. And it's only you that I cherish the most."
Josephine giggled. "I have always been attracted to you, Basil," Josephine said, her voice low and seductive.
The conversation was enough to make Elma wide awake. The conversation hit her like lightning. She didn't need to turn to see who are the two people talking behind her. They were certainly Basil, her fiancé, and Josephine, her best friend.
She couldn't believe what she just heard. Basil had been her childhood sweetheart. The man she swore to love for the rest of her life. The man who made her believe in love. The man who was looking at her lovingly while discussing the wedding plans with her over dinner. She couldn't believe Basil did this to her all the while cheating on her with her best friend!
Her hands trembled in anger. Her flesh, in fact, trembled in rage. There is nothing in the world that could describe how she's feeling at the moment.
"Have you two no shame?" she yelled, startling the two. She reached the car's light and saw a scenario she never thought she would ever see.
With the sudden attack of brightness, Josephine immediately covered herself up by picking up the clothes on the floor.
"Elma!" said Josephine but she couldn't care less. She is mad and she wants to kill them both for betraying her like this.
"Elma, listen-"
"Shut the fuck up, Basil. You don't have the right to tell me to listen because I am not listening to your lies ever!"
Basil was frantically putting on his clothes too and Elma couldn't help but find the two of them pathetic.
"You two are something," she said. "Basil, how could you even do this to me? What have I done to you? And with Josephine?" She turned to Josephine. "What have I done to you, Josephine? Why must you betray me like this? Basil and I are getting married-"
"She's my mate, Elma," Basil said.
She heard it earlier when she opened her eyes. She heard Basil saying that Josephine is his mate. To hear it directly from his mouth...the pain she was feeling knew no bounds.
Elma could see the look in Basil's eyes. There was not even regret in his eyes. Elma wanted to laugh.
She doesn't want to appear weak in front of these despicable people. So she got out of the car. Much to her dismay, Basil followed her out. Josephine followed next.
"Elma..." Josephine called and she faced the two of them.
Josephine and Basil were looking at each other as though having a silent conversation before nodding.
"What Basil said is true. We are fated mates. Basil agreed to get engaged with you because of his father's will."
Hearing Josephine say it made her realize how stupid she was for loving Basil. Basil never loved her. He tolerated her because of his father's commands. And now, he has found his mate. His fated mated. What does she have against his mate? It's someone chosen by the moon goddess.
"Why did I have to find out this way, huh? Why did you have to...Why did you have to do that right where I was sleeping? You pigs!"
She couldn't read the look on Josephine's face but she saw her mask slipping away and saw the cocky expression on her face.
"Basil's father wanted him to be the next Alpha of your pack. But since his father already dealt with your father, Basil no longer needs to hide our relationship."
