“Whom does this female belong to? She possesses no seat here. This is not a place for females.” An older male wolf's authoritative and strong voice booms throughout the room, the high walls carrying the sound of his disapproval of my presence made clear the minute I stepped into the conference hall.
“I think you are mistaken for it is the place for me. I am an Alpha.” A flash of teeth from my side as my warrior spirit surges, a slow wild lick of my lower lip to taunt him, eyes glaring at the disrespectful male whilst I continue to calmly saunter to my rightful seat on the table.
Whispers and murmurs travel through the room gossips spreading like wildfire as they inspect my flesh head to toe. Their suits are neat, in many instances fine, and wherever I encountered the eye of one it is only to recognize in it a degrading and unwelcoming stare. They find me unworthy.
They shamelessly judge me with surprised, disgusted, and calculating male eyes, which makes my stomach clench with fury. The air that is brimmed to the edge with testosterone of Alpha males makes me sick right down to the pit of my core.
There is a deep familiarity with these kinds of unhesitant stares for this is my normality of life. To be met with hate, disgust, and humiliation of the soul I possess. It is not because they do not know me. They do know. They know of the battles I had won for my pack. And they certainly feel the strength I possess.
Perhaps they merely pretend to be blind and deaf, to remain oblivious to my surging power. Or perhaps, they failed to anticipate that I would officially become an Alpha and that I would be sitting here at the same table with them.
“How can you prove this?” The male sounds suspicious eyes searching deep, to find cracks upon my high wall.
“Prove?” Deep loud laughter erupts from the pit of my belly whilst I gaze at him, “Is there a need for me to prove?” The wolf visibly shivers as he feels the threat hidden beneath my eyes.
For the first time, apart from all those feelings, I sense their fear. Their fear for the first Female Alpha. The fear of being challenged by a female in armour. The noisy chatter dies into silence. No one speaks anymore to my sneers and low growls openly displayed to them. The excitement of revenge lingers in my mind.
“Alpha, are you feeling okay?” Elriam, my beta comes close to my flesh to whisper to me, her worry for me clear as glass.
"Yes, Elriam, thank you for your concern." I turn around to peer up at her and deliver a light smile easing her distress. Elriam is the only wolf I trust, the only wolf who is truly concerned about me. She has been my trusted beta ever since I was a pup. She has accompanied me through the darkest times in my life.
Born to be a female alpha and to rule was not my choice, but my destiny. My childhood was not that of care, warmth, or love. Rather it was filled with fighting.
Fighting to survive. Fighting just so I can see the beauty of the sun the next day.
My parents put the pack before their dying pup and my brothers who would spit at my feet for being born a female. I had no one to call my own. No one to just hold me and say “It shall be all right."
The only reason as to why I was kept alive was that the healer had a vision of my future, of my reign and the prosperity I would bring to the pack. And I had been fighting for it ever since. A twisted long story of a bloody struggle and brutal killings. That is why I possess the right to be here.
I look around the table. It is quite rare to see such powerful wolves gathering together in one place. They are here for the most important global event for all Alphas.
The Alpha meeting.
It is where most of the Alphas from around the world meet to form alliances or negotiate things that matter. It is also the first time that I have chosen to take part in such a big event as an Alpha. I shied away from this knowing I would be simply adding fuel to the fire with my presence.
I plop down upon the chair next to the head of the table. It is a sign of ranking. The Alphas watch at my antics dumbfounded whilst I sit down, but they keep their mouths clenched shut. Elriam stands behind me showing her strength, looking carelessly from one Alpha to another. I smile wickedly at what my eyes witness and whisper to Elriam, “This shall be fun.”
Yes, this is going to be fun.
With agonizing slowness, the hall begins to fill up each wolf holding different expressions whilst they regard me, and for any male that gazed longer, my wolf roared and paced within disliking their open thoughts of us. Unfamiliar faces and the curiosity about the owner of the seat next to me build up my anxiety to be in crowds and among unknown wolves. I take in deep breaths and encourage myself, asking my wolf for her strength and guidance.
A male’s voice alarms us whilst his words boom across the hall to set me free from my thoughts, making my ears perk up to welcoming.
