Happy Birthday:
The lights danced across the floor, shimmering off of people's bodies as they danced. The dj's setting the mood with disco lights as he blasted a remix of something very old with something very new; making himself feel upcoming. June shook her head as she leaned back against the counter of the bar. The heat coming off the dance floor she could feel from there. It was a little overwhelming but there was a hint of excitement. She watched Krystal dance and laugh trying to persuade her to come out on the dance floor. June shook her head with a firm no look on her face. She glanced at the clock five minutes exactly. In five minutes she would be eighteen. All female wolves are excited for the moment they turn eighteen. They think it's when they will find their mate like he appears out of thin air. She felt nervous and almost scared. What if he was some unbearable troll. She turned to look at the bar, she had barely had any alcohol but a shot of alcohol sounded like a good idea. Maybe she could convince the bartender to let her have one. The club was for werewolves exclusively so there was a high chance she would meet her mate tonight. Krystal kept going on and on about how this was the perfect plan. She could feel her skin heating up as she thought more and more about it.
"Hey Darling you ok?" His voice was deep and immediately made her heart flutter.
She had been staring at the bar top for however long now. She brought her eyes slowly to meet his and she dove into them. They were deep like the ocean and the same in color. His hair was the darkest shade of night and was tousled just slightly. Like he put in just enough effort to care. She felt a shiver run over her body as she tried to find her voice to answer him. He smelt amazing like cedar and rain, warm yet exciting.
"I..uh i'm-" she looked over his head and saw that it was one minute before midnight.
"Way too gorgeous to look so worried. What's your name?" He asked, setting down the glass he was holding and leaning across the counter, way too close.
"June." She said her voice betrays her and sounded like she whispered.
"My favorite season is summer." He whispered his hand just inches from hers.
"Alright ladies and gents it is midnight! We just heard that we need to give a birthday shout to June! June, where are you!" The Dj's voice came over the speaker.
June cringed internally and tried to shrink away. God she hoped Krystal didn't come drag her away. She was searching for a way to escape.
"June! Come let's get her out here. June! June!" The Dj began a chant as the crowd began looking around.
She pulled back from the bar counter panic across face. She was going to leave just to make a quick dash for the exit and no one would even see her. She was almost on her way to escape when a hand caught her. Electricity shot through her, the hand touching her caused her body to react in ways she had never felt. She followed the strong hand back to its owner. A charming smile was across his face, the bartender somehow ended up on her side of the bar and was holding her hand. She panicked as he was going to turn her in. The panic was a strange feeling, she wanted to freak out but the sensation coming from this stranger was making her completely calm.
"This way, come on, I know somewhere you can hide." He smiled at her and then began quickly leading her away from the chanting, dancing mob.
He led her down a long hallway, she kept glancing over her shoulder accepting a mod of people to come running after her yelling June! They would capture her and lead her back to the dance floor. They stopped short suddenly, the bartender grabbed a key out of his pocket letting go of her hand. As his hand left hers her heart fluttered, she didn't want him to stop touching her. She needed to have his hand back. If her wants and feelings were not so overwhelming she might question what was happening with her but she couldn't focus on it. Her mind was fixated on this tall dark and handsome stranger. He pushed the door open and nodded for her to follow her in. Echoes of voices coming down the hallway made her jump and before she knew it she was in a tiny closet space with a stranger. He quietly pulled the door closed putting a finger to his lips letting her know to be quiet. He listened and once he was sure they were gone he let out a small chuckle. His chuckle sent tingles through her, she stared at him trying to process all these feelings.
"What's your name?" June asked her voice just above a whisper.
"Abel." He smiled, stepping towards her, closing the distance between them.
"Abel." June said her voice suddenly became very breathy, she stepped back into the wall, the only thing that she felt was going to hold her up as her legs became jello.
